Carno House - links to places of interest:
As you can see from the images on this website (more can be seen in this Photo Gallery from PM Studios), this is a beautiful part of the country: rolling hills and dramatic mountains - without the harsh ruggedness of North Wales. You can see why it is attractive to those wanting to 'get away from it all'.
The County Council has a Tourism site which gives more details, including a page for Aberaeron, but below are some of our favourites:
Cors Caron: This is a large flat peat bog to the north of Tregaron. Many birdwatchers come to see the wildlife. A new boardwalk giving a circular route has been built which takes you to a large bird-watching hide.
Abbeys: There are two close by. Strata Florida about 20 miles to the north-east and Talley about 20 miles to the south-east. Although both are ruins, Talley still has some high arches, but Strata Florida has the 'visitor centre'.
Ceredigion Museum: This is a small museum in Aberystwyth housed in the old Coliseum theatre. Amongst the displays are old farming and kitchen equipment.
Penlanlas Golf Course: Is situated in one of the many spectacular locations of Wales with panoramic views over the surrounding countryside. With an undulating course and numerous water features and established natural trees, you are sure to have a memorable visit.
Rheidol Railway: A journey of 11¾ miles between Aberystwyth and Devil's Bridge through the spectacular Rheidol Valley by narrow gauge steam train. Taking an hour in each direction, sit back and enjoy the superb views.
Devil's Bridge: Remains open all year and is renowned the world over attracting many visitors since the 18th century. Two walks are marked out affording you different opportunities to enjoy many of its features.
Castell Henllys Iron Age Fort: This site is particularly important, archaeologists have been excavating here for over twenty years, and thatched Iron Age buildings have been reconstructed on their original foundations.
New Quay Honey Farm: Visit and purchase some of Wales’s purest delights. Visit the Shop, Meadery, and Exhibition or enjoy refreshments in the Tearoom. An ideal opportunity to purchase the honey you will enjoy during breakfast at Carno House.
The Cliff Railway and Camera Obscura: At Aberystwyth is the longest in Britain and the only one in Wales. Enjoy the views to the summit and when you reach the top, visit the Camera Obscura - the biggest in the world; here you can have a bird’s eye view of more than 1000 square miles of land and seascape.
Aberaeron Swimming Pool: Open 7 days a week for swimming with sauna, disability facilities and more available. Book the Swimming Pool for private hire. Inflatable session and much more is available.
Sculpture Heaven: A visit to us (including parking ) is completely free. You can have a guided tour of our workshop and an explanation of how the sculptures are made. You can stroll through the gardens to view our Angel House, Titan Labyrinth, Rowan Grove and Sculpture Trail.
